Marilyn Loloff Buehler's Obituary
Marilyn Loloff Buehler, of Arlington, Virginia, died on October 31, 2024. She was born on September 29, 1930, in Boulder. Colorado, to Gus and Francis Loloff. She grew up on a farm outside of Greeley, Colorado, where she attended University High School. Marilyn graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln in 1952 with an undergraduate degree in teaching, then began her post-graduate studies in literature at Bryn Mawr College in Pennsylvania. She earned her Master’s Degree in Literature in 1979 from the University of Chicago, and was fully committed to a life-long journey of learning.
She was an English instructor at the University of Illinois, Chicago Circle Campus, and would later teach high school English literature at Santa Catalina School, a private Catholic school in Monterey, California.
Marilyn married Robert C. Buehler (Bob) on April 12th, 1952, and was married for 52 years. The couple first moved to Park Forest, Illinois, before moving to Hinsdale, Illinois. Her husband worked for his family’s meat packing business located at the Chicago Stockyards. The family relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in in 1961, and her husband worked in international distribution for the Del Monte Corporation. They both retired in San Francisco, where she was an ardent supporter of the San Francisco Symphony and Ballet, as well as many other artistic entities and endeavors. During her retirement, she loved being an active member of the University of Chicago Book Club in San Francisco, hosting monthly meetings at her home for many years. She also adored her many black and white shih tzus, Truki, Zeppy, Chelsea, Haddie and Cece.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband in 2004. She is survived by her three children, Robert C. Buehler Jr. of St. Joseph, Missouri, Paul H. Buehler of Kenilworth, Illinois, and Patricia B. Trapanese of Arlington, Virginia, and seven beautiful grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on December 16, 2024, at 10:00 AM, at Skyline Memorial Park in San Mateo, California.
