Maria Elena Gomez's Obituary
In loving memory of our mother, Maria Elena “Nena” Cendejas Vda. De Gomez went home to Our Lord on July 27, 2024 at the age of 78. Nena, lovingly, dedicated her life as a mother to a family of 4 sons. Our family would not be where it is today if we didn’t have Nena as our mother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Nena was born to Bulmaro Cendejas Magaña and Elena Vega Vega on July 26, 1946, in Purepero, Michoacan, Mexico. As a child she excelled in mathematics and enjoyed reading “Archie” comics. Most of all she enjoyed dancing to rock’-n-roll music and the game of jump rope with her cousins. Coming from a family of 12 children she started helping at a young age in the family businesses “Tienda de Telas and Tienda de Abarrotes.”
Nena met her husband, Jorge Gomez in 1964 at the town’s plaza while Nena enjoyed an ice cream with her sisters. They married 5 years later, on May 31, 1969, and together they went on to have 4 children; Jorge, Rafael, Jose Luis and Bulmaro.
Nena was predeceased by her husband, Jorge, her parents, Bulmaro & Elena, her siblings Delia, Francisco, Griselda, Jesus, Berta, Avelardo. Nena is survived by her 4 sons; Jorge, Rafael, Jose Luis and Bulmaro; her 7 grandchildren; George Alexander, Jorge, Samantha, Andrew Dominic, Edward, Kimberly and Matthew; her siblings Martha Alicia, Maria Teresa, Maria de Lourdes and Jose Luis.
