Maria de Jesus Valdez's Obituary
Maria de Jesus Valdez was born in Nochistlan, Zacatecas, Mexico, on April 25, 1928. As most did during the global depression of the 1930s, Maria grew up poor. She faced hardship early in life, losing her mother at the tender age of seven. She adored her paternal grandmother, Paula, who helped raise her and whose love and guidance was a steady source of comfort and inspiration during her childhood. Her humble beginnings would shape her strength, resilience and Catholic faith. Although she received only two years of formal schooling, those who knew her knew that she possessed intelligence and wisdom that went beyond the classroom.
Maria married at the age of eighteen and began building her family. She was the proud mother of three children, Lucía, Salvador, and Jose, from her marriage. After the passing of her husband, she continued forward with courage and perseverance. In a second relationship, she welcomed two more children, Blanca and Oscar. Later, in a third, she added one more child, Jack. As her children started their own families, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were added blessings who can trace their roots to Maria. Her greatest joy was always the children in her family.
Maria’s life was a testament to resilience, kindness, and an incredibly strong mindset. She was a courageous matriarch who immigrated to the United States to build a better life for her family. Leaving Mexico for this country, she tirelessly worked to bring her children and extended family here, and established a legacy of love, opportunity, and sacrifice. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were a constant joy for her. She was their rock, their inspiration, and their eternal supporter.
In her professional life, Maria was respected by her colleagues. Her integrity and diligence were not just words but principles she lived by.
As we say goodbye to Maria today, let us remember not just the loss but the richness she brought into our lives. Her legacy will continue in the lives she touched, the lessons she imparted, and the love she shared.
Rest in eternal peace, Maria. You will forever live in our hearts.
