Maria Aganon Acdan's Obituary
Our beloved Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep, at the age of 93, at the home of her son Victor and daughter-in-law Deborah. She is also survived by sons Marvic, Melvin, and daughter-in-law Naomi.
Mom was born in Badoc Illocos Norte, Philippines to her father Quintin Aganon and mother Leovalda Pagala. She grew up in a farming family, and later went to school in Manilla to get her teaching certificate. There she met her future husband, Victoriano.
Mom married her adoring husband Victoriano in 1953 in Quezon City, Philippines and settled in San Francisco in 1955 to raise their family. She was an active parishioner at Star of the Sea and was a member of the FAAStar, the Filipino Community, and Pearl of the Orient. She was a generous, friendly, outgoing, devoted soul, with a huge sense of humor. She worked for an insurance company for over thirty years, retiring at the age of 72. Her hobbies included: cooking, gardening, going to garage sales, and dancing, (she would always be the first person on the dance floor at weddings and parties.). Mom was always dressed to the nines.
Known for her giving spirit, Mom opened her home to numerous friends and family from the Philippines, so that they could get their start in America. She knew how hard it was to come to a different country with very little, and sharing her home and family was the best gift to them. Marv, Mel and Vic’s friends were always welcomed in Maria’s kitchen which provided lots of lumpia, love and advice.
Mom was a devoted wife and mother. When dad got sick, mom cared for him while working fulltime and raising three boys, giving us everything and all the love we needed.
The family will be having a funeral Mass for the immediate family, and then Maria Aganon Acdan will be buried alongside her loving husband, her sister, and her uncle at Skylawn Memorial Park.
