Magdalena Gualderama's Obituary
Magdalena “Dee Dee” Sampayan Gualderama was born in Pa’auhau, Hawaii on November 22, 1933. She was the fifth daughter of six to Emiliano and Raymonda Sampayan, who were later known by their legal names, Francisco and Raymonda Pascua. She was the last of her surviving sisters as her younger sister “Carrie” Edulan passed away in May of 2022. She has one other surviving sister, who is also her eldest niece, who her parents adopted, Barbara Gambol of Honolulu, Hawaii. She is also survived by her three sons, Kevin (Wendy) Gualderama of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Russell (Meliza) Gualderama of Antioch, California, and Keith Gualderama of Brentwood, California. She also leaves behind six granddaughters, one grandson, 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. She married Ignacio Gualderama Jr. of Hilo, Hawaii on November 12, 1955 and remained happily married to him until his death on August 11, 2010. They first lived in Hilo, HI for five years, then moved to South San Francisco, CA where they lived for 43 years, and then finally moved to Sacramento, CA. She lived out most of her remaining years with her son Keith in Daly City, CA until October of 2021, when she moved with Keith to Brentwood to be closer to her other son Russell and his family. She has numerous nieces and nephews, other family, friends, and Hanai family, who are friends that we consider family, according to Hawaiian tradition; the Alnas family and Enanoria family, to name a few. She was much loved and highly respected by everyone who knew her. John13:34-35 says, “A new command I give you: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” Loving others was evident in all aspects of her life.
