Lois Marie Ferguson's Obituary
Lois Marie Ferguson was born on May 4, 1939, in Dallas, Texas to the proud parents, Clarence Harold Brown Sr. and Algerita Clarissa (Badie) Brown. Lois was the middle child of three, her older brother Clarence Harold Brown Jr., and her younger sister Mila Ruth (Brown) Cooper. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. On November 13, 2025, she was called home to be with the Lord at the age of 86.
In 1942, Lois's family moved to California, where she was later baptized at the age of 12 by her uncle B.B. Alexander at Macedonia Church of God in Christ in San Mateo. She attended Bayview Elementary School, Portola Middle School, and Mission High School in San Francisco, where she enjoyed volleyball, softball, and singing in the high school choir. Lois lost her mother at the age of 17, which motivated her to be self-sufficient at a young age.
She lived in San Francisco for 65 years before moving to Antioch in 2007. In 1958, Lois married Vernon Lee Ferguson Sr., and together they welcomed two sons: Vernon Lee Ferguson Jr, in 1959 and Victor Eugene Ferguson Sr. in 1961 .She continued her education at City College of San Francisco. She worked for the federal government before joining the California State Compensation Insurance Fund, where she devoted 32 years in various positions, including clerk typist, word processor and analyst. After 39 years of hard work, she retired at 62. She loved sports -- especially the San Francisco 49ers -- along with family gathering, card games, and spending time with lifelong friends.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Clarence Brown Sr. and Algerita Brown, and her brother, Clarence Brown Jr. She is survived by her sister, Mila Cooper, her sons, Vernon Ferguson Jr. and Victor (Kaye Mraz) Ferguson; her grandchildren, Martell Marshall, Victor Ferguson Jr., and Valise Ferguson; and her beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends and family: The Cooper, Ferguson, Brown, Benjamin, Gamble, Young, Stewart, Webster, Gosey, Lawson, and Bedford families. And she is survived by her brother-in-law, Floyd Ferguson, and her dear niece, “daughter,” Lisa Benjamin.
We celebrate the life of Lois Marie Ferguson, as she approached life with optimism, kindness, and generosity. She will be remembered for her willingness to help and her deep love for her family. Lois’s love for her family will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her. As she would always say, “Be a giver, not a taker."
