Mrs. Linda Rio Balanon's Obituary
Linda Balanon, affectionately known as "Mama" by her family, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2020, at the age of 85. Linda was a quintessential matriarch, and her family will forever miss her loving presence.
Linda was born on October 23, 1935 in Laoag City, Illocos Norte, Philippines to Apolonario Rio and Rosalina Regacho. At the age of 19, she moved to San Francisco, California, where she would eventually meet her loving husband, Esteban Balanon. On January 1, 1959, the two were married, and shortly thereafter, had two children: Catherine and Steven Balanon.
Linda worked in several major companies for 40 years including Bank of America after earning an Associates Arts degree from City College of San Francisco in 1958. She had a passion for traveling to Hawaii, the Philippines and all over Europe. She enjoyed going to Las Vegas with her husband where they saw Celine Dion and Rod Stewart in concert. She loved to cook, sew, do crossword puzzles, and read James Patterson and Danielle Steele novels. She spent countless hours gardening, and planting flowers and vegetables in her yard. She enjoyed shopping, taking weekend drives, and--most of all--spending time with her family.
Linda is survived by her husband Esteban, her two children, Catherine and Steven; her grandsons, Alexander, Jonathan, and Gregory; her granddaughter-in-law, Stephanie; and great grandsons, Jameson and Hendrick. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 3, 2020, at Skylawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park, Skyline Blvd at Hwy. 92, San Mateo, California. Catholic service will commence at 10:00 a.m. and burial at noon. The service will be held outdoors in the Crystal Springs Pavilion so please dress accordingly.
