With deepest respect and admiration, we honor the life of Ko Yin (Anna) Mao, who passed away on January 16, 2025, at Stanford Hospital in the Bay Area, California, United States, at the age of 77. Born on September 25, 1947, in Quzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China, she was the daughter of the late Zhi Xiang Mao and Hang Yuan Xu. She was also one of seven siblings: predeceased by her siblings Wen Yang Mao, Wen Bo Mao, and Wu Yin Mao, and survived by her siblings Chu Yin Mao, Wen Yuan Mao, and Wen Man Mao, with whom she shared close and loving bonds.
Ko Yin (Anna) Mao was the wife of the late Suen Ming Kho, who passed away in 2019. Together, they shared a life of partnership, joy, and treasured memories. She was a loving mother to Anristie Kho and Nick Kho, a cherished mother-in-law to Michael Hong and Zuki Io, and a proud grandmother to Aiden Kho and Lucas Hong. Her family was her greatest pride and her enduring legacy.
Ko Yin (Anna) Mao had a passion for life and the ability to bring people together through cooking. She loved baking bread and pastries, preparing traditional Chinese dishes, and enjoying dim sum (“yum cha”) with family and friends. These meals symbolized her love for sharing food and connection, making every gathering special. Beyond the kitchen, she expressed her creativity through sewing, creating thoughtful and practical pieces for her loved ones.
Traveling was a meaningful part of Ko Yin (Anna) Mao’s life, not just for the joy of seeing new places, but as a way to strengthen her family bonds. She cherished traveling with her family to spend time together and to visit relatives overseas. Her travels took her to Italy, England, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Taiwan, and more, enriching her life with treasured memories of family connections.
In her free time, she enjoyed playing ping pong with her friends, which kept her active and brought her joy and camaraderie.
Born in China, Ko Yin (Anna) Mao lived in Hong Kong for over 40 years before moving to the Bay Area in California, United States. She embraced each chapter of her life with resilience and optimism, spreading love and joy wherever she called home.
Surrounded by her loving family, Ko Yin (Anna) Mao passed away peacefully. Family members in the United States were by her bedside, while family overseas stayed connected through video calls until her very last moment. This profound display of unity and love reflects the remarkable bonds she nurtured throughout her life.
Known for her compassionate heart, quiet strength, and boundless generosity, Ko Yin (Anna) Mao created a warm and welcoming home where the values of love, kindness, and tradition thrived. Her love, wisdom, and enduring spirit will forever be remembered. Her teachings and values will remain in the hearts of her children — Anristie Kho and Nick Kho — her grandchildren — Aiden Kho and Lucas Hong — and all whose lives she touched. Reunited now with her husband, Suen Ming Kho, her memory will continue to inspire generations to come.
Funeral Service Details:
A funeral service in honor of Ko Yin (Anna) Mao’s life will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Skylawn Funeral Home’s Pacific Chapel, followed by a burial service at 11:30 AM at Skylawn Memorial Park. Family and friends are invited to join in remembrance and to reflect on her remarkable legacy.
