Kin C. Ching's Obituary
Kin C. Ching (U Kyi Lay) was born on August 11, 1934 in Mogok, Burma. His parents moved to Yangon, Burma where he grew up alongside his two brothers and five sisters. His father passed away when U Kyi Lay was in 20s and since then he became the head of the household. U Kyi Lay loved his family, especially his mother and siblings, very much.
He met his wife Kyin Hla Ching (Daw Kyin Hla) when he was 24 and got married on November 11, 1958. He was survived by his wife and four kids, Joanna, Panella, Theresa and Tony and experienced the life of his nine grandchildren and now even one great grandchild. He loved his entire family and was very much family-oriented.
During his time in Yangon, he was a successful business owner of Hinlee Factory, a garment factory with over 150 employees. His family immigrated to America on August 06, 1979 to San Francisco, California. He first worked in a gift shop at Pier 39 and then became a taxi driver in the Bay Area. After driving for 4 years, he became a taxi medallion owner where he became a mentor to new drivers and assisted the Burmese community with job opportunities in the Bay Area.
U Kyi Lay was a very smart, hard-working and generous man. He loved to hangout with his taxi crew, play cards, watch tv and eat out. He particularly loved eating spicy burmese food, yum cha and junk food such as potato chips and coca cola. Despite not knowing much English, he was very street smart and was able to navigate his way around through the streets of SF. Even on his days off driving taxis, he would still drive his grandkids to school and doctor appointments.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
