With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kien Duc Luu (our dad), a visionary entrepreneur, caring father, and loving husband. He departed from this world on August 7, 2023, leaving behind a legacy that will forever inspire and guide us.
Our dad was a true embodiment of determination. From an early age, he exhibited an innate passion for creating, leading him to embark on a remarkable entrepreneurial journey. With a heart full of dreams and a mind filled with ideas, he fearlessly ventured into the business world, touching countless individuals' lives along the way.
His relentless pursuit of excellence led to his establishing several businesses, a supermarket, a sake company, an agricultural rice field, and an ice manufacturing company, where he transformed his visions into successful ventures.
Unfortunately, in 1978 due to the unstable political climate in Vietnam, our family faced the harsh realities of a country torn by conflict and political prosecution. Fueled by a deep desire for safety, freedom, and a better future, Dad made the heart-wrenching decision to leave behind everything and set out on a perilous journey by boat.
In the quiet of the night, with nothing but a few belongings and the weight of hopes and dreams, we embarked on a small fishing boat with others seeking refuge. The sea was both our lifeline and our challenge. The waves seemed to echo the uncertainties of the path ahead, yet our determination to escape the shadows of a war-torn country propelled us forward.
As we faced the ocean's vastness, we navigated through the constant threats of being captured by government patrol boats and pirates. Unfortunately, the government patrol boats captured our boat, and the pirates detained us. Through Dad's negotiation abilities and willingness to give everything in our possessions to our capturers, we were allowed to venture on with our journey.
Our arrival in America was a mix of emotions - excitement, uncertainty, and anxiety. Stepping off the plane, we were greeted by a new world of opportunities and challenges. However, with nothing more than our aspirations to make the most of this fresh start, Dad was determined to rebuild our lives.
Dad took on any job he could find, from working in a factory to delivering newspapers, no matter how menial, to ensure our family's survival. His unwavering commitment to our future fueled his determination to overcome every obstacle that came his way.
Today, as we reflect on our achievements, we recognize that our success is a reflection of the values instilled in us by our father's love. His sacrifices, guidance, and boundless affection have been the driving force behind our endeavors.
Beyond his professional achievements, our dad was a beacon of wisdom and compassion for his family. He leaves behind cherished memories of his guidance and his genuine interest in the well-being of those around him. His boundless love and support will forever remain etched in the hearts of his family.
Though our dad may have left us, his legacy will continue to shine brightly through the lives he touched. As we mourn his loss, let us also celebrate the incredible journey he undertook and the lasting impact he made.
Survived by his wife, Thu, and eight children: Ken (Helen; Thao Nguyen), Jade (Man), Karen, Julie (Peter), Giang (Cindy), Danny (Vien), Kevin (Norine), and Cathy (Gregg); Twelve grandchildren: Minh, Kiet, Chuong, Deric, Randy, Brian, Natalie, Alex, Michelle, Kurt, Isa, and Markus; Three great grandchildren: Preston, Mia, and Gemma
