Kiang Shu Chin Chow's Obituary
Kiang Shu Chin, passed away peacefully at the age of 93 at her home in San Francisco on Monday, August 20, 2018. She was the last surviving member of her family’s generation.She was born on December 25, 1925, in Nanjing, China. She attended Nanjing University and was one of the few women of her time to study Dentistry.She met her husband, Chow Chung Mou, in Nanjing, where his sister was her classmate. They got married on March 24, 1950 in Hong Kong. Later on, they moved to Taiwan, where she opened up her practice in dentistry. Their eldest child, May, was born in 1954 and their second child, Chow, in 1957. In 1961, the family moved to Brazil, to pursue new opportunities. Her husband worked hard at the soybean farm and she, who had to give up her dentistry practice when she moved, started out by selling embroidered tablecloth, a requirement during that time as part of a Brazilian woman’s dowry. Later on, she turned to selling jewelry, in particular, Mikimoto pearls.Both May and Chow moved to the United States in the late 1970s, and they joined them later in 1991. From then until just a few years ago, they split their time between Brazil and the United States. Having retired in the mid-eighties, Kiang Shu Chin liked to spend her time knitting, cooking, watching television dramas, and playing Mahjong both with her friends, and more recently, online with an iPad.Her final years were spent peacefully at home in San Francisco, with her children and husband nearby. She was incredibly generous, kind, and loved her family; we’ll keep her memory always.
