Karen Moynihan's Obituary
Karen Elizabeth Moynihan, 66, passed peacefully on June 4, 2024, with her family by her side after her three-year courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Karen Elizabeth Moynihan was born on July 22, 1957, to her parents Robert and Virginia (Reed) Gottke. She is the youngest of four with three older brothers Wayne Gottke (Susan), Kenneth Gottke (Diana), and Robert Gottke (Joann). She was raised in Columbus, Ohio, graduating from Westland High School in 1975. She attended The Ohio State University where she met her husband, Kevin Moynihan. They graduated and were married the following day on June 14, 1980. Shortly after, they moved to California. In the earlier years in California, she enjoyed skiing, house boating, and playing on company softball teams. She had two children, Thomas Moynihan (Svetlana) and Sara Michal (Eric). She worked for Lockheed Martin for a total of 27 years. She was able to step away from work to focus on being involved in her children’s school and extracurricular activities. She went back full time to work in 2006 and fully retired from Lockheed Martin in 2022. Karen loved warm weather, long walks, boating, beaches, quilting, and most of all being with her friends and family.
Those who will miss Karen the most include her husband, daughter, son-in-law, brothers, daughter-in-law, step grandchildren- Dasha and Dillon, a host of close friends, other family members including sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She is reunited in Heaven with her son, Thomas, and her parents.
Services to celebrate Karen’s life will be held in California and Ohio. California services will be at the chapel of Skylawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home in San Mateo - visitation from 4-7 PM Friday, June 28, 2024, and service at 10 AM on June 29, 2024. Ohio celebration of life will be held at Heritage Golf Club in Hilliard, Ohio, at 12 PM on July 27, 2024.
