Jyi-Jeng Hwang's Obituary
On Wednesday, January 1st, 2020 Mr. Jyi-Jeng “Jimmy” Hwang passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his family after a yearlong illness due to cancer.
Jimmy was a loving, devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Yin Fang Hwang; his children, Allen Hwang/Delia Yang; Lena Yin/Robert Yin; his grandchildren Alexander Hwang, Nathan and Lucas Yin.
Born and raised in Taiwan on November 7th, 1940, Jimmy grew up with his parents, 1 younger brother, and 4 sisters in the town of San Yi.
All his life, Mr. Hwang had an interest in building his wood carving business along with his brother, Jyi-Seng Hwang. He was especially close to his siblings and family. While working during the day, Mr. Hwang attended college at night to obtain his accounting degree. While in college, he met the love of his life, Yin Fang Wang. They married and had 2 children, Allen and Lena.
On June 11th, 1978 he left his beloved country and immigrated to the United States. He didn’t speak any English and like many immigrants to a new country, Jimmy had to quickly find a way to make a living and raise his family. They settled in San Francisco and over the years, Jimmy was able to become a successful businessman. His business ventures took him to many parts of the country and overseas. He eventually settled into the restaurant business in the heart of San Francisco Fisherman’s Wharf. Working alongside him were his trusted lifelong business partners and close friends, Frances and Chuck Chu.
Jimmy not only took tremendous pride in his business but also loved and cared for his family. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, brother and friend. Jimmy was a kind, gentle and generous person. He was a simple man who enjoyed the simplicity of life. His passion was gardening that was passed down to his daughter, Lena. His garden was his pride and joy. He enjoyed going on shopping trips to the local nurseries with his daughter collecting plants (there was always room for more plants). Jimmy enjoyed his early morning walks along the bay collecting driftwood and taking beautiful photos of the scenery. When he is not gardening, Jimmy loved spending his free time with his siblings, watching his sports and cooking shows. He will be greatly missed. His family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you for your kind words, comforting presence and condolences during this very difficult time.
A funeral service and burial will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo on January 6th 2020 at 1PM in the Pacific Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family is accepting donations in Jimmy’s memory in the name of his loving wife, Yin Fang Hwang.
