Josephine "Josie" Ann Ahl's Obituary
Josephine Ann Dietz Ahl was born in South Central Wisconsin (Fort Atkinson) on March 31, 1918 to the late Frank and Catherine (Humbach) Dietz. Her parents were of German decent. This lineage gave her strength and wisdom which contributed to her inherent sense of logic and understanding. She attended Elementary school in Fort Atkinson before entering St. Mary's (Girls) Catholic Academy High school. She then attended a business school in Milwaukee were shed became a skilled secretary at the Hoards Dairyman Newspaper in Fort Atkinson. Josephine entered an extensive time of Military Regimen in December 1943 during World War II as she married US Air Force Captain William M. Ahl, Jr in the small wooden chapel located on the Rapid City; South Dakota AAB December 23, 1943. Our first child was born in 1945 in California and one son was born in England. This began another time frame as our family continued to grow as we welcomed the remaining five Ahl children creating the AHL family Military span (1943-1960). There were periodic active duty assignments usually every three years. These assignments were both stateside and abroad. Our family changed school, life styles, churches and customs as needed. This was peace time again but living quarters had to be available. The family was in Guam and then once again stateside living in the West, Northwest as well as the South and Southeast. Col. Ahl retired from the service and returned to college with the assistance of the US government. This brought the family together again as we headed to the San Francisco Bay Area to accept a civil service US government assignment position. Josephine then became a resident of San Mateo resident, residing on Mefferd Ave for 52 years. The children called her 'Mom' or 'Grammy'. She was known as 'Jo' or Josie' to her husband and friends. Josie always did her best as a Homemaker, Mentor, Mother and grandmother. Everyone who knew her loved and respected her... she was always and will always be 'The Greatest' to us. Thank you for a life well shared and now blessedly at rest.Josephine is survived by her devoted and beloved husband of 69 years, 'Bud' (Col. William Morton Ahl, II), their six children William M. Ahl, III & wife Gloria of Long Beach, CA, Christine Allen & husband Fred of Dayton, OH, Jacquelyn Ahl Noto & husband Joe, of Menlo Park, CA, Richard Ahl & wife Jane, of San Carlos, CA, Constance Ahl Davidson& husband Sammy Davidson of Edwardsville, KS, and James Ahl & wife Eve of Vacaville, CA; A niece Kathy (Derus) Jergenson, four Nephews: Richard Derus, Tom Derus , Harry Derus and Robert Derus and four Grandchildren: Shawn Ahl, Danielle Ahl, Hilary Ahl, Michelle Ahl) In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, William M. Ahl, Sr. and wife Hortense (Richard), her sister and brother-in-law, Rosemary and Roy Derus, and nephew, Steve Derus.Everyone who knew her loved and respected her... she was always and will always be 'The Greatest' to us. Thank you for a life well shared and now blessedly at rest.Services will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home & Memorial Park Feb. 1, 2013 at 10:30 am.
