Joseph S. Young's Obituary
With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joseph Young. Joseph Young left peacefully on Wednesday, July 19, 2023, after long struggle with post-transplants recovery after lung and kidney transplants. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and strength.
He is survived by his wife Jennifer, four sons, Jason, Michael, Stephen, and Jeffrey, three daughter in-in-laws: Loffer, Van, and Doan, two granddaughters and two grandsons, his brother, James, and sisters-in-law, Julie and Rose, and nieces and nephews.
Joseph was born on June 22, 1954 in Busan, S. Korea. He migrated to San Francisco at age of 12. He went to UC Berkeley and then University of the Pacific for Doctor of Pharmacy degree. Joseph met Jennifer in San Francisco before they both end up at University of the Pacific. They got married on December 1, 1979 after he graduated from UOP. They moved around East Bay from Albany to Richmond to San Leandro where Jason, Michael, and Stephen were born. Then they moved to South Bay where Jennifer’s parents were and settled in Saratoga since 1987.
He worked at Eden Medical in Castro Valley since 1980 for over 40 years and at El Camino Hospital in Mountain View for over 25 years. His considers his friends at Eden Medial and El Camino Hospital his family. He had great time working there and just recently retired from both hospitals.
After connecting with his uncle and cousins in China after years of China isolation, he petitioned his two cousins to come to America. He helped his cousins and their children settle in Santo Clara County. He was always eager to help those in need.
Joseph was very outgoing and comical and had friends all over the world. He was nostalgic about his childhood classmates and actively participated in Busan Chinese School class reunions. He kept in touch with his childhood friends from Busan. Joseph loved everything about China. He had a condo in Dalian, China, and invited all his friends to visit in Dalian.
Joseph lived a full life: working hard for his children, taking good care of his family, enjoying his friends’ company, and traveling to China three to four times a year.
He’ll will be remembered by his family and friends for his love and generosity.
