Joseph Tsoi-A-Sue's Obituary
Joseph Tsoi-A-Sue was born on August 14, 1961 in Trinidad, West Indies. He was the fourth of eight children born to Dr. Patrick Tsoi-A-Sue (deceased) and Dorothy Mantong. He was the beloved husband of Susan Hill for over 24 years and was very proud of his son, Christian Tsoi-A-Sue and his step-son, Carl James Henderson (wife-Naomi) and his two grandchildren, Alyssa and James.Joe is survived by his mother, Dorothy, and his seven siblings. Fond memories of him will forever be treasured by his devoted and loving siblings: Michael (wife-Maureen), Patrick (wife-Gail), Anne Geib (husband-Greg), Patricia Tsoi-A-Sue Schmidt (husband-Don), Philip (wife-Rosana), Margaret Padilla (husband-Jim), and Debbie Tsoi-A-Sue. He will also be missed dearly by his many nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.Joe attended San Fernando Boys RC and Presentation College in San Fernando, Trinidad and, as a child, he was drawn to the ocean. In high school, he was an active and energetic member of the First Presentation Sea Scouts. His love for Scouting carried on into his adult life when he served as a scout leader. He was especially proud when his son, Christian, attained his rank of Eagle Scout. Joe enjoyed soccer as a kid in Trinidad and that naturally led him to the path of coaching Christian’s soccer teams. He loved his two dogs dearly. He is now reunited with Tyson and is already missed sorely by his surviving dog, Toby. After high school, Joe worked briefly in accounting at Neal and Massy in Trinidad. Joe then left to attend the Radio College of Canada to pursue a career in electronics, a field in which he would eventually excel. After graduating, Joe lived for periods in Trinidad and in California while he developed his skills as a Technician for Xerox, Neal and Massy and Tektronix. After meeting Susie, also a Trini, in Long Beach, it was love at first sight and Joe settled in California. After their short courtship, they were married in Long Beach. Joe and Susie later relocated to San Carlos where he would gain the respect and friendship of many of his colleagues during his 28 years in Information Technology with the State of California.Anyone who knows Joe can probably tell a story about something that Joe fixed. He often enjoyed the challenge of finding something that was discarded or presumed to be useless, then fixing and restoring it to excellent working condition. Joe had every imaginable tool to get any job done. His ability was not limited to electronics. Joe could fix just about anything! He had a great love of the outdoors and boating and the family spent many fun filled weekends at their lake house in Clear Lake. He could also cook up a storm for his family dinner for four or for a Boy Scout event of up to 100. Some of Joe’s favorite culinary creations were BBQ ribs, various Trini dishes and whipping up batches of peanut punch for the Scouts at summer camp!Joe reached out and touched the lives of many friends and strangers with his willingness to help and generosity. His dedication to keeping in touch is hard to match. He was very loyal to the Boy Scout Oath to “help other people at all times” and lived by the principles of the Boy Scout Law.On July 19, 2018, we lost Joe to a long and painful battle with depression. He will be missed dearly and will remain in our hearts and fondest memories forever. May God bless his soul and may he rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, the family would be most appreciative of memorial donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness made in memory of Joe.
