Joseph Santana's Obituary
Joseph Santana, 92 years of age, of Belmont CA died at his son’s home in Burlingame CA on November 1st at 3:15am of natural causes.He was born on January 2, 1922 in Lemoore California to Andres and Maria Santana. He grew up in San Francisco’s Butcher town district with his five sisters, Eleanor, Rose, Carmen, Irene and Alice. During the Second World War he served in the Merchant Marines on Liberty ships in the Pacific and Atlantic theaters for four years. He returned home to marry the girl across the street, Velma Martinucci on November 25th 1950. They resided in the San Francisco Bay Area for the remainder of his life. Joe was a proud member of Teamsters Union Local 85 for over 30 years and an active member of the Elks club for 50 years. After his retirement, he expanded his culinary skills by cooking for teamster retirees once a week. He enjoyed playing on the Elks club Bowling and Bocce Ball teams. He loved and was proud of his son, daughter and two grandchildren.He is survived by his wife Velma, son David, daughter Kathryn, grandson Andrew and granddaughter Alexandra.A private funeral service will be held at the Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo. A memorial mass will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Belmont on a date to be announced.
