Joseph Kertesz 1932-2013 Resident of BurlingameJoseph Kertesz was born in Hungary in 1932. After completing his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Budapest, he became a teacher at the Hungarian Institute of Technology.Joseph left Hungary in 1956 and settled in Canada, where he met his wife Olga. Together they immigrated to the United States and have lived in Burlingame for over 45 years.In 1969, Joseph left his engineering career to be the full time artist he dreamt to be. He founded the family run Kertesz Fine Art Gallery on Sutter St. in San Francisco, where it flourished for 40 years.Having suffered from a heart condition, Joseph passed peacefully in his sleep on November 6, 2013. The family wishes to thank the devoted doctors and nurses of Mission Hospice San Mateo and the staff of the Millbrae Paradise Care Home, Miriana, Lani, Joe and Marika for the loving care they gave “Papa”.Left behind are Olga Kertesz, his wife of 53 years, his daughter Julie Venosa, son in law, Joseph Venosa and grandson Alex Venosa.A Celebration of Life will be held at The Studio Shop in Burlingame, please contact [email protected] for more information.
