About a husband and fatherJohnson Yang was born in Guangzhou, China as the first born son to a humble but educated family. At the age of 19, John won a scholarship to attend the Sun Yat Sen University to study mechanical engineering. In 1943, he graduated with top honors in his class.John then won a Chinese government competition to attend the University of Chicago in a program to learn American aviation technology. Completing the program, he returned to China and served his county keeping the war planes of the Nationalist Chinese Air Force aloft fighting the Japanese and later the Chinese Communist forces.Out of war sometimes beautiful things happen. In June of 1944, he married the love of his life Ling Yee Chan. The family grew with the birth of Annie, Bernard, Clement, Daniel and Edwin.To seek a better life, John first moved his family to Hong Kong and ultimately found a way to immigrate the family to the United States.In the United States John with the help of his loving wife Ling carved out the American dream for his family. He worked hard during the day as an engineer and then nights and weekends at the family’s restaurant. With hard work and foresight he was able to provide for his family, educate his children and invest in real estate.John was a loving and caring husband, father and grandfather. He always lent a helping to his extended family and friends. He loved to help create harmony and prosperity to all the people around him. We shall miss him very much.
