Johnny was a huge part of my life growing up in the Bay Area. He was basically one of our cousins and our big bro. My parents loved him and he loved them as well. He always played the piano when my mom led worship on Sunday mornings so I was always the messenger between the two of them as to what songs they’ll be singing. Johnny bought my dad a Tweety bird T-shirt which he remembers to this day. The last time we all saw Johnny was in 2021. He and his family came to Vegas and he specifically asked to have dinner with me, my husband AND my parents. This is a memory we will cherish forever.
My cousins and I all shared so so many inside jokes with Johnny and we were constantly laughing when we were together. We hung out every Friday and Sunday. He has taught me so much in life. He helped me with my math homework and he taught me how to drive in the Westmoor parking lot even before I took official driving lessons with a real instructor. He tried to teach me how to drive stick shift but I never was able to master that. He sure did love cars… cars and music were his thing. We’d sing loudly to the most teenybopper songs in the car. I even asked him if he could one day sing Michael W. Smith’s “You are the Love of my Life” at my future wedding and he said would. Unfortunately, this will not happen.
On my Sweet 16th birthday, I presented him with an Angel of My Life award (yes, we had a little award ceremony). He was and always is an Angel of my life. Forever and ever.
I love you 哥哥. See you again in Heaven.
Love, Franny Po
