Rev John Peter Chow's Obituary
Rev. John Peter Chow passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025 at the age of 83 in San Jose. He leaves behind his wife Elaine and children Alice, Abel, Angela, and Andrew.
He was born on April 21, 1941 in Macau to Bing Chiu Chow and Chuk Kwan Ho. He was the third of six sons: Chun Nam, Kin Nam, John Peter, Kuk Shing, Po Shing, and Wing Kwong. At the age of 15, he offered his life to ministry at summer camp. Fulfilling that promise, he worked for Christian missions after graduating seminary and was eventually ordained as a pastor in 1971. He served in many churches and ministries across three continents for more than 60 years.
Rev. Chow’s passions were serving God, missions, and church history. He valued God and was a recipient of God’s grace and provision his entire life. He had a soft heart and always found a way to help those in need. He was a faithful husband for 57 years and a loving father to his four children.
He is survived by his devoted wife Elaine, children Alice & Wallace Yau, Abel & Hannah Chow, Angela & Eugene Wu, and Andrew Chow, as well as grandchildren Karissa Yau, Kaitlyn Yau, Katerina Yau, Kolin Yau, Abigail Chow, Talitha Chow, Josiah Chow, Iden Wu, and Odin Wu.
The funeral service will be held on May 1, 2025 at Skylawn Funeral Home for family and close friends. A Celebration of Life service will be held on May 31, 2025 at 2pm at Community Baptist Church of San Jose for all friends and family.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Chinese Christian Mission, the first mission organization our Dad worked for.
Our family finds comfort knowing our Dad's legacy lives on through the Christian faith he passed to us, the love he shared, and the memories we cherish forever.
