John Gordon Brown John Gordon Brown was born in Rosedale, PA on October 3, 1936. Known as “Gordy” throughout his life, he was the youngest of four children born to Lyall and Ruth Brown. When Gordy’s father died suddenly in 1938, his mother moved the family to California. Gordy grew up in the small Northern California town of Orland.After high school Gordy relocated to Southern California to attend Cal State Northridge. It was at this time when Gordy met Jacqueline Dente of Hollywood, who would become his wife of fifty-nine years. After serving two years in the U.S. Army in Korea, Gordy began a thirty-one-year career with Kraft Foods. He and Jackie raised three children, eventually settling in the San Francisco Bay Area, as his career led him. Retiring from Kraft at age fifty-eight, Gordy worked for another fifteen years as a facilities director at Menlo Park Presbyterian Church.In 2000 Gordy began exhibiting troubling symptoms that were later diagnosed as Parkinson’s disease. With the diligent care of Jackie, Gordy valiantly fought the disease for eighteen years, retaining a good quality of life for longer than any doctor expected. Gordy finally succumbed to the disease on August 29, 2018.Gordy will be most missed by his wife Jackie; his three children, Jody (56), Shannon (53), and Garrett (49); his children-in-law, Andy (52), Hans (57), and Susan (49); his eight grandchildren, Jeffrey (28), Austin (28), Taylor (28), Alec (25), Justine (24), Cameron (23), McKenna (22), and Delaney (19); and countless friends and relatives who were touched by his humble, selfless spirit and his abiding faith in Jesus.
