Mrs. Joanne Lee Hyland's Obituary
Joanne Lee Hyland, 71, passed away December 15 after a long illness.
Joanne was born Joanne Axell on May 13, 1954, to Richard Axell and Katherine
Androutsopoulos of South San Francisco, Ca. She grew up in Belmont, Ca, with her siblings, Kimberly, Dennis, Pamela, Victoria, and Bobby (deceased). She graduated from Carlmont High School in 1972. After high school, Joanne continued her education at cosmetology school, which led to her becoming a hair stylist in San Mateo, CA. Joanne enjoyed cutting and styling hair, and she truly loved chatting with her customers and creating friendships with them.
Joanne met her husband, Andy Hyland, in 1970 at Carlmont. They married in 1974 and settled in Redwood City, Ca, where they lived most of their lives. Their daughter, Natalie, was born in 1977, followed by a second daughter, Tiffany, in 1980, and son, Tyler, in 1989.
Joanne was a bright light filled with energy, love and compassion. She enjoyed music, sports and parties – anything that brought her family and friends closer together. Her smile and laugh were infectious, her strength and kindness legendary. Joanne had no ego. She lived every day with the sole purpose of loving and caring for others, including strangers she’d just met. When you were with Joanne, you felt peaceful and welcomed. She touched deeply the hearts and minds of everyone who knew her. Joanne will be missed dearly but never, ever forgotten.
Joanne is survived by her husband, Andy, her daughters, Natalie (Danny), Tiffany (Kevin), her son, Tyler (Brittany), her brother, Denny (Liz), her sisters, Victoria (Patrick), Pamela (Frank) and Kim (Dan), and her grandchildren, Matthew, Curtis, Carey, Keegan, Olive, Elliott and Quinn.
A celebration of Joanne will be held sometime early spring 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to https://www.alz.org or choose your charity.
