Joan R. Stivers' Obituary
Joan Phyllis Rankin Stivers, aged 80, died peacefully at home on November 26, 2014 after a brief battle with brain cancer.Joan was born in Denver, Colorado to F.B. “Eddie” Rankin and Lillian Rose Rankin. She attended South High School in Denver, and Colorado A&M in Fort Collins, where she met and married Jerry Stivers.She and Jerry had two children, and lived and worked all over the world. They spent two years in Germany, three years each in Pakistan and Nigeria, and traveled extensively in Europe, Asia and Africa during their free time. She truly rubbed elbows with both presidents and paupers during her travels, and displayed grace and understanding in her relations with both.After returning to California, Joan settled in Mountain View and went to work for Hewlett-Packard until retiring in 1988. She became a self-taught world class chef, and enjoyed entertaining her friends, neighbors, and family with her skills. She also raised Labradors.Joan is survived by her son Jeff, daughter Jonni, grandson Jeremy, granddaughter Jessica, sister Janet, niece Kathy, and son-in-law Beau. A memorial service and funeral will be held at Skylawn Memorial Park on Friday Dec. 12th at 1 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the UCSF Brain Tumor Research Center, or to your local Labrador Retriever Rescue Group.
