Joan Evangeline DeVore Kawaii's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joan Evangeline DeVore Kawaii
Dear Friends and Family,
Early Saturday morning, January 18, 2025, we lost our beloved mother, Joan Kawaii, after suffering a ruptured aorta. She is survived by her sons, Derek and Darren Kawaii, and her four cherished grandchildren—Kalea, Savanah, Ikiru, and Eren. She will be laid to rest at Skylawn Memorial Park in San Mateo County on February 21, 2025. Visitation opens at 10am and the services begin at 12pm. The burial is at 2pm.
Joan dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching in the San Francisco Unified School District, nurturing young minds as a 2nd and 3rd-grade teacher at Paul Revere and Glen Park Elementary Schools. Her passion for education and unwavering commitment to her students left a profound and lasting impact—not only on her immediate family but on the hundreds of children she taught and inspired throughout San Francisco.
We are deeply grateful to the entire team at USC Keck Medical Center for their exceptional care, ensuring our mother’s final days were filled with comfort and support.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating the life and legacy of Joan Evangeline DeVore Kawaii. She will forever remain in our hearts.
With love and gratitude,
The Kawaii Family
