Jimmie L. Karsgard's Obituary
Jimmie was born in Hastings, Oklahoma on April 9th, 1921 to James David Smith, Sr. and Ufa Ola Person Smith. Jimmie, her parents, and six siblings lived out the Dust Bowl years in Oklahoma during the Great Depression. She graduated from Comanche, Oklahoma High School in 1940, after taking a year off to take care of her mother, who had been ill. When World War II began, Jimmie moved to Fort Worth, TX and worked for the Rexall Drug Company. After the war ended, she moved to Santa Maria, California and lived with her oldest sister, Mary and family.Jimmie met Henrik Karsgard in 1947 in Santa Maria and they were married July 10, 1949. From this union, there are three children: Penny Little (Chuck), David Karsgard, Teresa Cunningham (Darby), two grandchildren, Ineka Tedford (Tom) and Cody Cunningham, and two great-grandchildren, Claire Tedford and Molly Tedford. The Karsgard family lived in San Luis Obispo until 1966, then moved to the Coastside (Moss Beach), where she continued to work and raise her family. Jimmie drove vans & buses for special education programs for a total of 27 years, and retired in 1987. She is preceded in death by her husband, Henrik, of 46 years, her sisters Linda, Claudia, and Billie, her nieces Nancy and Cathy, and her nephew, Mark.Jimmie’s passions were her church, her family, and activities that included crocheting, book group, and visiting with the many friends who will miss her. Jimmie had a great sense of humor, a twinkle in her eye, and loved her family very much. She will be greatly missed.
