Ho, Jeanne L.'s Obituary
Jeanne Lieu Ho passed away peacefully on Friday, November 29, 2024, surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 78. Jeanne leaves behind a devoted family who cherished her deeply, including her children, Katherine Roos, Maureen Berrios, Mimi Edwards, Lily Ho, and Vincent Ho. She is also survived by her eight adoring grandchildren: Andrew, Matthew, Brooke, Sydney, Dante, Andi, Jordan and Kayla. Jeanne now reunites with her beloved husband of 55 years, Van C. Ho, who passed away last year. Born to Duc Thang Lieu and Ngoc Anh Trieu in Hanoi, Vietnam, Jeanne was the second daughter of five children in the close knit Chinese-Vietnamese community. She grew up in a big family with cousins who now reside all around the world. Jeanne was the ultimate matriarch, a pillar of strength, guidance, and love. As the moral compass for those around her, Jeanne instilled the importance of education, integrity, generosity, and compassion. Friends and family often spoke of her as a woman of remarkable charm, grace and kindness. She was admired for her intelligence, beauty, and warmth. Before immigrating to the United States, Jeanne was a teacher at the Chinese schools in Hanoi, Vietnam. She cherished her role as an educator. This early chapter of her life reflected her lifelong dedication to learning and helping others grow. Jeanne loved being a grandmother, and was deeply loved by her grandchildren, who remember her as a strong-willed, perceptive, and doting grandmother. They called her Po Po. She always encouraged them to follow their passions and pursue meaningful lives. She made sure that her grandchildren learned Chinese traditions and etiquette. Whether offering advice, sharing a bowl of soup or fruit, or surprising them with snacks she knew they’d enjoy, Jeanne’s thoughtfulness and love shone through in everything she did. Jeanne was an exceptional cook who found immense joy in preparing meals for her loved ones. She took no shortcuts in the kitchen. Watching others enjoy her food brought her the greatest delight. Jeanne and Van would spend weeks preparing Chinese New Year dinners. A woman of impeccable style, Jeanne appreciated beauty and aesthetics in all aspects of life. She was always elegantly dressed and incredibly photogenic. She was an exceptionally active and vibrant person. Jeanne always had something to do, and somewhere to go or someone to call. For decades, she swam at the Jewish Community Center, and danced at the Golden Gate Park Senior Center. Her commitment to staying active was a testament to her determination and love of life. Her strength and love were the pillars of her family, and she took immense pride in the successes of her children and grandchildren. She also loved mothering her nephews, nieces, and cousins. Jeanne’s legacy is one of generosity, resilience, and a life well-lived. She will be profoundly missed and forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know her.
