Jean E. Kaster's Obituary
Jean Ellen Kaster, 92, of Hillsborough, CA, passed away peacefully at 11:30 AM, Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Peninsula Hospital in Milbrae, CA. She was born March 18, 1921 in Portland, Oregon, to Louis and Alice Goldsmith. Jean married her sweetheart John David Kaster on March 6, 1944 in Portland. John passed away January 12, 2012, also at Peninsula Hospital. They had seven decades of happy life together.Surviving Jean are her two daughters Kathy (Barry McCabe) and Cindy (Nick Trowbridge) and 6 grandchildren Kamila, Leila and Muhammad McCabe, Logan, Tessa and Tyler Trowbridge and nine great grandchildren; one brother Tommy (Linda) Goldsmith; one nephew, Randy, and three nieces Kathy, Mary Lee and Diana.While Jean lived in Portland, she went to the University of Oregon but had to leave to go to work in the family business during the war years. The family business was set up in the thirties by her Uncle Archie and her father Louis and became the Goldsmith Company in the sixties under the leadership of Archie's son, Alan and Louis's son, Tommy. Today, the company is still a family run business.Jean was a long time resident of Hillsborough where she led a full and varied life working closely with the PTA, doing lots of volunteer work including the Medical Auxiliary and The Humane Society. This was her favorite charity, due to her passion for dogs and especially cats, who were always close at hand.She led a full social life being a lifetime member of The Peninsula Golf and Country Club, performing in the annual Club Show for over 30 years. She loved music and dancing, belonging to 4 different dance groups including The Cotillion and Dancing Partners where she could be found tearing up the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. Jean enjoyed an active life through healthy eating and daily exercise.Jean will be deeply missed by all her family and friends, may God bless her and give her peace. Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Skylawn Funeral Home, Highway 92 at Route 35 San Mateo, California.
