Jay Leon Berkett's Obituary
Jay Leon Berkett passed away on Thursday June 25, 2020 at the age of 92. He was preceded by his wife Joan Berkett and granddaughter Sara Jaye Overstreet.
He is survived by his children, Dana Overstreet, Dru Berkett and Daren & Mitch Tuchman, his seven grandchildren, Jessica Stevens, Jaimie Ribera, Danielle Najafi, Alexa Carcova, Jack Tuchman, Leo Tuchman and Lucy Tuchman, and his two great-grandchildren, Logan Jaye Stevens and Sofie Leona Carcova. Jay was expecting his third great-grandchild, Raheem Jay Najafi, this November. All of his great-grandchildren share a piece of his namesake and will carry that with them always.
Jay was born on March 17, 1928 in Bronx, New York. He played basketball, football and swam for North Carolina State, was a proud service member who saw combat in the Korean War, and was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.
A private service was held for the family on Sunday June 28, 2020.
The family is requesting that any donations be made to the Sara Jaye Overstreet Fund for Literature and Underprivileged Students.
