James Osby Roberts' Obituary
James Osby Roberts, 90, passed away on December 16, in San Francisco, California. Born on January 6, 1924 to Dorothy Powell Roberts of Amite, Louisiana. James was adopted by his step-father, Il Roberts. In the late 1940’s James moved to San Francisco and worked as a laborer in the constructions trades for over 30 years. He was a member of the labor union for over 50 years.Upon moving to San Francisco, James met Esther Twine, his companion, and upon retirement, he spent his time gardening (in East Palo Alto), talking about his cousins and the San Francisco Giants. He enjoyed watching his garden of plants and trees grow from seeds to maturity, and he was eager to share the bounty of the harvest. James was known as a man of few words, a hard worker, and a lover of his independence. James has left a host of cousins, friends, and members of Esther’s family to morn his death. In addition to being close to Esther’s family, James was particularly close to his cousins Nancy Banks of Fresno, CA, and Bryan Caston of San Francisco.Thank you to everyone who expressed their condolences to the family and friends of James. Also thanks to Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park for their assistance.
