James Francis Mahon's Obituary
James Francis Mahon, age 87, peacefully passed away on Monday January 14, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on March 24, 1931 in Bakersfield California to James and Pauline Mahon. In 1968, Jim married the love of his Life, Nancy, and were together until her passing in 2002. Jim was an extraordinarily strong willed man who contracted polio at the age of 8 years old. Even though this debilitating disease took the use of his legs, he never stopped moving forward and accomplished more than most. After graduating high school, Jim visited Ireland and his Irish relatives he cherished and talked about often. He then went on to work for Bank of America for 40 years and retired as an Assistant Vice President.Jim was an avid hunter, his time spent at the Half Moon Bay gun club were some of his most cherished, especially the times spent with his good friend and cousin, JoJo Quinlan. Jim followed in the foot steps of his father and became the clubs president for many years. Jim never took the easy road, for many years he drove an old Willies jeep while hunting. This was an extraordinary accomplishment, as the jeep had a manual transmission so he had to operate the clutch, shift and brake, all by hand. For those who were lucky enough to ride with him in that old jeep, it was a ride you wouldn’t soon forget. After retiring from Bank of America, Jim was forced to use a wheel chair. He took up bowling and would travel around the western states competing in bowling tournaments. Jim won many of these tournaments and often times had the high average in his bowling league. Polio was never able to slow Jim down.Jim’s love of life was only surpassed by the love for his friends and family, especially his nephews and their families. Jim is survived by his nephews Tim and Marty, Tim’s wife Jeni and their children Tommy and Michael, Marty’s wife Stacey and their children Aidan and Avery. Jim is now in heaven, resting in peace with his wife Nancy, parents, brother Tom and sister Lee. He was a man who was larger than life and will be deeply missed by many.
