Murray was born in Lemberg, Saskatchewan on May 3, 1929 to William and Lillian Hall. He was the second child born to William and Lillian, the first being Thomas Glen born 8 years earlier. The family moved to Regina in 1937. Murray’s mother Lillian had Murray take piano lessons there. The family moved to Saskatoon in 1945. While in high school, Murray became good friends with Merv Falk. They were members of dance bands while in high school and university with Merv playing the Alto sax and Murray the piano. Murray and Merv remained good friends the rest of their lives and played in several bands together.
Murray attended University in Saskatoon and majored in electrical engineering, an interest he had that began in high school. After graduation in 1952, he moved to Hamilton, Ontario to accept a job with Westinghouse and married Esther Lena Molkinthin. Murray and co-workers completed a microwave transmission project in the Tampa Bay area in 1959. The next year, Murray and family had the opportunity to move to the San Francisco Bay Area where he accepted an engineering job with Lenkurt in San Carlos. Due to the demand for engineers the family was able to apply and receive permanent residence status. They settled in Sunnyvale in 1962. During his career, Murray also worked for a startup company Farinon Video in the early 70s, then Farinon Electric and finally Harris corporation. Around 1980 Esther and Murray moved to Los Altos where they remained until moving to the Forum in 2016. His daughter Barbara provided much appreciated love and care after the death of his wife Esther.
Murray had a rich, full life who loved and generously provided for his family. He also very much enjoyed his career and music
