Celebrating the life of James Houston DavenportJames was born on August 17, 1933 in Alabama where he lived until 1955. His parents were Walton and Helen and he was the 3rd of 10 children. He attended Thompson High School and Mississippi Southern where he played football and baseball. He played in two Sun Bowls as quarterback. After college he began a career as a professional baseball player for the San Francisco Giants. He continued his career for 60 years as a player, coach, scout, manager and assistant to the general manager. He earned a Golden Glove Award in 1962 and played in the 1962 All Star Game. James lived in San Carlos since 1962 and was married to Betty on April 14, 1951. He was inducted into the Alabama and Mississippi Hall of Fame. He loved playing golf, fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife Betty, daughter Cathy, sons; Randy, Ken, Don and Gary, 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a Children’s Cancer Hospital of your choice.
