James P Ching's Obituary
James Po-Yat Ching passed away peacefully in Mills Peninsula Hospital, Burlingame, CA on February 3, 2025. He was born in Shanghai, China on September 27, 1947 to Mr. Doe Ching and Mrs. Virginia Ching. He is survived by his wife, Annie Ching; his sisters, Linda Yuen and Helen Ting; 7 nephews and nieces; as well as 13 grandnephews and grandnieces.
At about 4 or 5 years old, he moved with his entire family to Hong Kong. There he received most of his primary and secondary school education. In 1963, he and his family moved again to the US, and he finished his high school in Boston, Massachusetts, before he moved with family again to San Francisco, CA. He met his lovely wife Annie Leung in 1971 while studying at Golden Gate University where he received BA and MBA degrees in business administration and finance. On, June 2, 1974, James and Annie were married and began their 50 years of happy family life together.
He began his career as a loan officer, working for several Bay Area banks at first, and in 1999, went into business himself, connecting lenders with borrowers. He derived his satisfaction by serving people and helping them reach their financial goals.
All these years, James Ching was known for his good nature and jovial manner. Although he discovered that he had contracted the incurable Parkinson disease in 1997, he never complained about his deteriorating mobility and continued cheerfully serving as a dedicated husband to his wife, Annie; helpful mortgage broker to his clients; and loyal and dependable companion to his friends and relatives. He continued leading a normal life until three years ago, when his deteriorating mobility required him to be confined in a wheel chair. Yet he still led a content and happy life until the last day.
James’ favorite pastime was watching sports. He was a dedicated fan of the 49er and the Giants since he moved to San Francisco. He will always be remembered as a content, good-natured, and happy person, and he will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
