James R. Bloyer's Obituary
On February 21, 2016, James R. Bloyer peacefully passed away at his home following a brief illness with his wife Brigita at his side.Jim was a survivor with a fighting spirit. As a 15 year old, he left home and high school with the consent of his parents to enlist in the Navy during the Korean War. Following his commitment with the Navy, he attended Treasure Island Job Corps and obtained his GED and through the G.I. Bill, Jim matriculated into the University of Minnesota Dentistry School, where he received his dental degree. Jim moved to San Francisco where he set up a long and rewarding practice for 55 years. Over the years, it was his love for his patients that kept him at work until his illness.In his younger days, Jim was very active in his life. He was an avid golfer, skier and hiker. He was also a 52 year Olympic Club member. Out of his many passions, he also loved to dive. So much, he became a part owner of a diving boat and made many trips to his favorite diving location at the Sea of Cortez. He was an aficionado of jazz music and with his wife, Brigita, traveled to Vail Colorado and Newport Beach Jazz Festivals, regularly. Another one of Jim’s passions were the love of cats. He adored cats. Also he supported the SPCA, Shriners Hospitals for Children and donated generously to the Wounded Warriors Project.Jim is survived by his wife, Brigita of 20 years. He leaves behind many close friends in San Francisco and Palm Desert. As a last request, Jim wanted to thank all his patients for enriching his life and to the V.A. Hospital and Staff for their support. His final resting place will be at Skylawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the SPCA and/or Shriners Hospitals for Children and/or to the Wounded Warriors Project.
