Obituary for Ivy Chang 徐張選倩
Ivy Chang, wife of the renowned writer Xu Xu 徐訏, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on November 2, 2025.
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Fiammetta Hsu 徐尹白, and son-in-law Frederik L. Schodt; her grandson Michael Sullivan and his wife Anisia; two cherished great-grandchildren, Mason and Jacob; and her two younger sisters, Grace and Linda.
Born on December 24, 1932, in China, Ivy was the eldest of six children of Gee Pan Cheung 張际鹏 and Mak Yuen Yip 葉墨缘. Her early life took her through Chungking, Hunan, Nanking, Taiwan, and Singapore. In 1951, she met her husband, the writer Xu Xu, in Hong Kong, where they lived together until his passing in 1980. In 1983, she moved to the United States to join her daughter, who had settled there earlier.
Throughout her life, Ivy carried the strength and grace of her heritage. She loved reading, singing, cooking, and sharing good food. In her later years, she found joy in the company of her family and friends.
She is deeply missed and will be cherished in our hearts forever.
