Irving Ackerman's Obituary
Irving Ackerman age 95 of Redwood City, CA died at home on June 9, 2013.He was born in New York City, NY on December 23, 1917. Born to Phillip and Mendel Ackerman. He attended Rutgers University before enlisting in the U.S. Army. He served in France during World War II. He was evacuated 5 days prior to The Battle of the Buldge. He was a Tech Sergeant, and all his soldiers knew who to come too for their needs. He hand sewed the men's strips and badges on for a nickel each and saved that money to buy gifts for his wife Margie. His military truck also beared her name. He married Margaret Katz on May 3, 1943.He was predeceased by His loving Wife Margaret Ackerman, and his brother Edwin Ackerman. Also his cherished pets, Baxter, Moses, Luke, Sammy Buttercup and Javair.He is survived by his loving daughters, Kaiya Storm and Diana Ackerman. His Brother Harold (Hesh) Ackerman and sister in law Wilma Ackerman. His niece Edwina Ackerman Ballman. His Grandchildren Adam Gold and wife Selene Gold and Cheryl Kroop. His Great Grandchildren Sarah Gold, Aaron Gold, Lily-Ann Garcia, and Maddie-Lynn Garcia.He and his wife were business owners of Ralston Cleaners in San Mateo, CA. and Edgewood Plaza Cleaners and Sewing Center in Palo Alto, CA. He enjoyed working with his wife Margie and interacting with his customers. He was a member of the 55+ club in Foster City, CA for over 35 years, where he held the post of President, Vice President and Secretary, it was customary for him to start the meetings out with a couple of stories and jokes. His jokes will be missed by his club members. He also attended the San Carlos Senior Center for canasta.He enjoyed the monthly club he and his neighbors started in 1970; they called it the couples club. He enjoyed watching the San Francisco Giants on TV with his daughters, and talking about the games with his daughter's high school friend, Kenn Fung.Grave Side Services will be head on June 12, 2013 at 12:30 PM, with military honors at Skylawn Memorial Park San Mateo, CA.
