In 1979 when hijab became mandatory in Iran, my talented Khaleh Iran created the most stunning coverup that flowed like a cape with a wraparound scarf seamlessly attached! She made me one in beautiful shade of blue and I absolutely adored it. Wearing it made me feel so special. It was so unique and effortlessly chic that strangers would stop me on the street to ask me where it came from! My aunt was extraordinary in countless ways and this was one of her quiet acts of defiance against limitations imposed to women. She will be missed terribly!!
