Iluminada was born in La Union, Philippines to Escolastica & Prospero Espiritu, Sr. on November 29, 1935. She was the oldest of 4, with her 3 brothers - Carlo Magno, Prospero Jr. & Ramon Sr. - following soon after. They grew up in Read Obituary
So sorry about the passing away of aunty Luming. It’s been over 50 years since I last saw her but my moments with her were always happy and memorable. She used to bring me to their house for some weekends to sleep over and during the day we’d go and gather fruits and vegetables nearby. I remember one in particular when we went up the mountain at the back of their house and gathered some mabolo fruits. Oh! How happy I was that day and so grateful she was my aunty Luming. When she came to visit us in our house, we were all elated and excited to see our beautiful, fair skinned aunty. We were all over her like a rash. She was so kind, caring and like a big sister to us little siblings. We also had a few trips to the beach and picnics with her in the early 1950s. As I was still a young child, I don’t remember much of it but happy days with our dear aunty.
Though I didn’t spend that much time with her because I was still going to school and she soon went to America, my aunty Luming still lives forever in my heart.
Together with sis Helen, the Gacad, Soriano and Bondoc clan in Australia, I would like to extend our condolences and deep sympathy to you Viva and family and to your extended families. We pray that she may Rest In Peace 🕊️
Although it was only for short period of time, it was an honor to meet Mama Lu. She was very sweet and very friendly. What I loved about her and will treasure was she chatted with my in-laws whom she met the very first time. These pictures were taken 2 years ago celebrating Independence Day.
She will be missed. May Mama Lu Rest In Peace.

One of my most fondest memories of Grandma Luming was when my family would come to visit at her house. Stepping into the kitchen was the smell of her freshly baked hopia in a basket. It was the perfect bite size and so flaky and yummy. I will always remember Grandma Luming for her specialty. I’ve never known anyone else who baked hopia except for Grandma Luming. I loved seeing her beautiful smile and will never forget how beautiful she always was.
We were so fortunate to see her on Zoom while she prayed with our family for the loss of my Dad a week before her passing. It had been many years since I saw her and the rest of your family. I was so happy to see her praying with our family. I said to her, “Grandma hold old are your now?” I was in awe of how beautiful she has aged throughout all these years of not seeing her. Her answer, “21!” LOL that definitely put a smile on my face and had me laughing. I feel so blessed to have been able to see her and connect with you, Viva before her passing. 🙏🏼❤️
