Huang Yao's Obituary
Yao Huang was born on December 26, 1921, in Jiangsu Province, China. He was the oldest of five brothers and sisters. Born into a family of scholars, Yao Huang was a diligent student from a young age and was especially interested in reading. He also recognized the importance of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Since his youth, he exercised often and regularly took long walks. He left home to continue his studies in high school in the provincial capital. After graduating, he advanced to Central University and later enlisted in the Huang Pu Military Academy.Yao Huang was gentle, modest, wise, and optimistic. He always did his best in all personal and professional endeavors, yet he never sought material rewards or needed recognition. After moving to Taiwan in 1949, he taught at kaohsiung Girls Senior High School. Every year, he had the honor of writing out the high school’s placement results because he was a talented calligrapher. Yao Huang’s neat and tidy Chinese calligraphy represented the way he lived his life with integrity, eloquence, and respect.In 1955, Yao Huang married Sang Hih Song. They were married for 63 wonderful years. Together, they had two sons, Chia-Chi and Chia-Yiao, and one daughter, Shing-Rei.In 1987, Yao Huang retired after 38 years of teaching. He and his wife immigrated to the United States to reunite with their children and grandchildren. After he came to the United States, Yao Huang devoted himself to helping his children and grandchildren achieve all that he had hoped and dreamed for them. He was usually very frugal, but his heart was incomparably rich, especially when it came to his family and friends. Even when all his grandchildren were about to enter high school, he made the sacrifice of living separately from his wife so that he would be able to pick them up from school and keep them on the path to success. His devotion and sacrifices have deeply impacted the paths of his six grandchildren and they carry his love with them always.Yao Huang passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones. We will carry with us the memory of his selfless devotion to family and friends.
