Hope Graham Hagar's Obituary
Hope Graham Hagar passed away in her San Carlos home on September 4, 2009, with family at her side. She was pre-deceased by her husbands Ray Graham in 1977 and Robert Hagar in 2001. She is survived by her daughter Cheryl McLaughlin and two sons, R. Charles Graham and Mark Elliot Graham; also by hundreds of nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great grandchildren and friends who loved this dear, sweet, Christian woman.Born Hope Bass on March 3, 1926 in Villonia, Arkansas, the 10th of 11 children, her family moved to San Francisco in 1939. In her 8th grade school newspaper, Hope's most likely occupation was listed as 'Miss America.' She was a cheerleader at Commerce High and dated the Quarterback.Working at a diner after school she met and married Ray Graham, with whom she had three children. She was very proud of being selected in her 20's as a model at Union Square's I. Magnin.In 1955, they bought their first house in San Bruno. Hope loved spur of the moment trips to Yosemite. Every August Hope's 30 or 40 relatives would camp for a week or two there.In 1961 Hope began a career at Lenkurt in San Carlos that lasted over 20 years, buying a house there in '65.In 1982 she married Robert Hagar in Hawaii. She loved the Moana in Waikiki and the Mauna Kea on the Big Island.
