Honkwai Tai's Obituary
Our beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and great-uncle, Hon Kwai Tai, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, April 23, 2026, at the age of 95. Born on May 15, 1930 in Hong Kong, he was the eldest of six children and was raised primarily by his father and grandmother following the early passing of his mother. He graduated from Rural Training College and devoted his life to education, beginning his career as a teacher before eventually serving as headmaster of Lo Yu Chik Primary School.
Soon after starting his career, he married Yuen Ping So, and together they raised their four children in Hong Kong. After retiring at the age of 60 in 1990, he and his wife moved to join their children and growing family in the United States. In 2018, he lost his beloved wife of more than 60 years.
Hon Kwai Tai lived a long and remarkable life as a respected educator, devoted husband, and loving family man. He believed deeply in the value of education and made countless sacrifices to provide opportunities for his family — a legacy that continues through his children and grandchildren. Even in his later years, he remained sharp as a tack and intellectually curious, with a passion for numbers, mahjong, current events, and even active stock trading! His greatest passion, of course, was his love for food, and we shared countless meals filled with good food, laughter, and the best company with our beloved patriarch.
While our family mourns his passing, we are profoundly grateful for the love, wisdom, and memories he shared with us throughout his rich and meaningful life.
He is survived by his two younger brothers and two sisters-in-law; his daughter and three sons; his son-in-law and three daughters-in-law; seven grandchildren and their respective partners; four great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his wife’s sister and her family.
