As the rug-rats that scampered around the Belvedere “campus” at family parties, we all experienced the warm glowing smile from “Henrietta,” as we called her. She seemed to float about with grace and a context of service that was far from subservient. Henrietta knew her place, which ranged somewhere between “guard dog” and “chief of protocol.” She put together fabulous food, keep things organized and deal with Uncle Lou’s incredibly complex, if not eccentric personality.Lou and Evelyn loved people and did a lot of entertaining at their Belvedere weekend home, with an island! THey hosted the weekend club for kids and Lou’d climb up on the roof and throw candy “at” us. In retrospect, I am sure it was Henrietta who had to pick up the wrappers after the kids burned out when their blood sugar finally dropped.Henrietta’s mainstay was her context, which was; “I am here to do whatever it takes to give you what you need to have a great time here.” I’ll always remember you, dear Henrietta!##imported-begin##Peter Hymans##imported-end##
