Helen Jane Drake Bailey's Obituary
Helen Jane Bailey was born to Clarence and Evelyn Drake on August 16, 1933 in North Hornell, New York until age 9.She then moved with her parents to Rochester, NY. The first of four children, Helen attended John Marshall High School in Rochester, New York before embarking on a 22 year career in banking. Helen was married to Ralph C. Bailey on June 27, 1953 in Rochester, NY; a marriage that lasted 62 years and gave Helen and Ralph three beautiful children. Helen and Ralph lived in Rochester until 1972, then moving to San Mateo, California.As Helen dedicated herself to her family, she also dedicated herself to her hobbies. An avid bowler of 56 years, Helen was a delegate to the National Bowling Convention for 35 of those years and was inducted into the Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame. She was a ham radio operator and a world traveler, logging 4,000 miles as a cross country pilot. Helen was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church and was a past Noble Grand of the Rochester Rebecca Lodge #174. She was past president of the Past Noble Grand of Monroe County NY. She was a member and past president of Peninsula Bowling Association and member past president of the Grace Lutheran Women’s Society. Past secretary and president of Katherine Luther Society of Rochester Pinnacle Lutheran Church. She was also a member of 99’s Women’s Pilot Association. Member and past secretary Golden West 99’s.Helen is survived by her husband, Ralph; her children, Richard of Menlo Park and Rosemary Olney of Pinon Hills; her siblings, Theodore Drake of South Carolina and Mary Elizabeth Drake of Florida; her grandchildren, Alexa Campbell of Big Bear, Jason Bailey of Menlo Park, Travis Olney of Crescent City, Jarred Bailey of Menlo Park and Jeffrey Bailey of San Mateo; and her great-grandchildren, Taylor Olney and Megan Campbell, both of Big Bear.A memorial for Helen will take place at Skylawn Funeral Home on March 21, 2016 at 11:00am. The family of Helen Jane Bailey requests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, Heart Fund or Arthritis Fund of your choice.
