HeidiMarie Callaghan's Obituary
HeidiMarie Callaghan passed away on July 10, 2026 in San Carlos. She was born on August 9, 1946 in Bamberg, Germany. Heidi was recently preceded in death by her loving husband James “Scottie” Callaghan who passed away on April 20, 2026. She is lovingly remembered by her son Justin, daughter-in-law Karin, grand-daughter Samantha, her brother Robert Hero and devoted members of his family.
Heidi entered the US at age 3 through Ellis Island. The newly named “Hero” family initially immigrated to New Mexico before settling in Burlingame. Heidi attended Burlingame public schools her whole life and graduated from Burlingame High School in 1964. A kind and generous soul, she made friendships that lasted a lifetime. Heidi shares grand-daughter Samantha with Janice Thurm, her high-school best friend.
After obtaining her AA degree from the brand-new College of San Mateo Heidi embarked on a 45-year successful career working for Hyatt in various executive assistant roles. Hospitality was in her DNA and Heidi excelled at making hotel guests feel special and appreciated. She spoke fluent German and was happiest travelling to Bamberg visiting relatives and shopping, as well as hosting relatives and friends visiting the US from abroad. She adored animals, particularly her beloved dog Sierra. She loved diamonds, going out to lunch with Scottie, and socializing with a glass of wine. Her warm heart and generous nature will be deeply missed and always remembered.
