Harold D. Waters' Obituary
Harold D. Waters 1931-2011Mr. Harold "Hal" Waters, a longtime Hillsborough resident passed away on June 3, 2011 in Burlingame. He was 79 years old. Born on July 10, 1931 in Huntington Park, California to Ralph and Helen Waters, he was the second of four children. Hal was a very active Boy Scout, becoming an Eagle Scout in 1947. He attended Venice High School, where he was the Student Body President and graduated in 1949. He continued his education until 1951 when he entered the Air Force, serving as a corporal. Shortly thereafter, he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life and wife of 58 years, Lorraine Varner Waters. The young couple married on November 29, 1952 in Mar Vista, California. In 1955, the couples' first child Linda was born, and two more, Sharon and Jimmy, would follow. Hal worked in the home textiles industry working as a sales representative. He would make this his career for the next 55 years, ultimately retiring in 2003. Throughout their lives, Hal and his family of five lived in Southern California, the Burlingame Hills and finally in Hillsborough, California. In his spare time, Hal enjoyed boating, fishing, taking family vacations in their RV, refurbishing sports cars, motorcycles and boats, waterskiing, golfing, model trains, and most of all wood working. Mr. Waters was incredibly talented with his hands. He rebuilt engines, refurbished old wooden boats, completed several construction projects, created beautiful furniture and other pieces in wood, and was currently restoring a vintage Indian motorcycle. Hal was very creative, a bit of a perfectionist and the most hardworking man we know. He made each day of our lives special and fun, making us laugh with his gentle sense of humor, as indicated by naming his first boat "Waters-A-Go-Go". Hal is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lorraine Waters and their dog Ruby; his two daughters Linda (Richard) Boyd and Sharon (Craig) Young; his four grandchildren; Christy (Mitchell) Boyd Carr, Brian Boyd, Danny Young and Nicky Young; and his brother; Stanley Waters of Phoenix, Arizona. Harold was predeceased by his son; Jimmy Waters; his brother Kenneth Waters and his sister Marlene Tyner. Services will be held on Friday, June 10th at 11:00 a.m. at Skylawn Memorial Park in the Santa Cruz room at the Lifemark Center, San Mateo, CA.
