Hans Huhn's Obituary
Hans Huhn aka “OPA”, of Pacifica, California passed away Wednesday April 18th, 2018; surrounded by love, in the comfort of his own home due to heart failure.Hans was born in Schwiebus, Germany, on the 20th of August, 1929 to Richard and Marie Huhn, kid brother to his older sister Gretelotte with a zest for life. In Germany, he attended grade school and afterwards went on to trade school to become a Telephone technician. After graduation at the age of 22, he chose to leave his home country and the love of his life Lilli, for Australia; promising a brighter, more secure life for the two of them together. Which he made good on that promise with a love letter stretched 3 years later to Lilli back in Germany, to whom he later wed May 28th, 1955 when she joined him in Australia. After a few years of working for the Australian Railroad as a telephone/telegraph technician, they saved up enough money and believed there would be even more opportunity in America, therefore off to a new land! They arrived in San Francisco in 1958 and Lilli soon thereafter gave birth to their son Roy. Again, with hard work Hans was able to succeed and buy the family a new home in Pacifica a few years later. He worked as a Greyhound bus driver until his retirement in 1986. He enjoyed many years of retirement traveling frequently to his favorite place, the property they bought along the Klamath river where he was happy out in nature!Noted as stubborn, but a generous and caring man with a keen ability to fix anything…Something he passed down to his son. Both are similar in their disregard for warning labels due to an eye for curiosity for how things really worked. He enjoyed hard work and would go from sun up to sun down well into his later years. In addition, he was not only a loving husband and father and provider, he was an avid outdoorsman. He had such a way with animals he was often seen petting wild deer while feeding them. His adventurous spirit led him to take up snow skiing in his 40s when he saw how much fun his son was having learning to ski. He continued to snow ski and water ski into his early 70s when his knees would no longer allow it even though he still wanted to.Hans is survived by his Wife Lilli (Jass) Huhn, Son Roy, Daughter in law Diane, Grand Daughters Taryn & Stacy and Step Grand Children Sean & Brandi.Funeral will be held at Skylawn Funeral Home and Memorial Park Highway 92 & 35 San Mateo California on Monday April 30th, 2018 at 11:00 am.
