Gregory Lee Tracey's Obituary
Gregory “Greg” Lee Tracey
9/7/1949 – 9/19/2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gregory “Greg” Lee Tracey, September 19, 2025.
Greg passed away at home in Redwood City, California. Preceded in death by his loving parents, Kenneth and Wilma Tracey. He was a beloved brother to Philip; cherished son to stepmother, Lorraine; stepsister, Linda Harrison; niece Heather Sallabedra; nephew, Warren and his loving great nieces and nephews. Greg was a special friend to Margaret.
Greg was born in Mishawaka, Indiana and grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He enjoyed chess and checkers, setting up and playing with model trains, wintertime sledding and snowball fights, building forts and bike riding in summer. Greg was a boy scout and participated in a bowling league. Of note, a remarkable high score of 288. Greg loved his family’s lake cabin where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and being near the water. Greg also enjoyed playing basketball with his dad and brother, plus other neighborhood friends.
After moving to California in 1970, he became one of the first residents of Kainos Home and Training Center and lived there for more than 40 years. Greg was a loyal and trusted friend to many. He was a kind, softspoken, and truly a gentle man, who made friends with everyone he met.
Kainos was there for Greg in his adult life. Their living skills and job training and counseling were key to Greg as he worked in the food service industry. He retired from Erik’s Deli Café in Redwood City after more than 16 years. Greg participated in many programs which included gardening, art, music, and his favorite hobbies of cooking, fishing, guitar playing, coloring and completing puzzles. His nickname at Kainos was “Mr. Fixit” as he enjoyed working with his hands, woodworking or repairing broken things around the property. Greg was quick to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor.
