Gregory Liggons' Obituary
Gregory Laurence Liggons, aged 71, died at San Francisco General Hospital on Monday, April 1, 2019 at 6:38 am.The fourth of five children, he was born March 21, 1948 in San Francisco to Lottie Cannon Liggons and Willie B. Liggons, Sr. He attended public schools and graduated from George Washington High School. Upon graduating from City College of San Francisco, Greg went on to earn his Bachelor of Science in Psychology from San Francisco State University. Additionally, he completed post-graduate coursework at San Francisco State.At an early age Greg accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and was baptized in water at Mount Zion Baptist Church in San Francisco; later he and his family attended Third Baptist Church for many years. He also studied piano and saxophone during his younger years.One of his employers during some of his college years was Leo’s, a men’s clothing store in downtown San Francisco. For two decades he was employed by the City and County of San Francisco as an eligibility worker.Throughout his life Greg maintained his love of music, reading, movies, good food, and the company of family and friends. He was a skillful organizer, loyal and compassionate. In recent years he rededicated his heart to Jesus Christ.Gregory survived the passing of his father; his dear mother; his brother-in-law, Rev. Vernon Warren; his brother Thomas Liggons, Sr.; his brother James Liggons; and his nephew Thomas Liggons, Jr. (“Billy”). He is survived by his older brother, Reverend William B. Liggons, Jr. (Dorothy Sue) of Oakland; his younger sister, Reverend Rose M. Warren of Santa Cruz; his sister-in-law, Lillian J. Liggons of Novato; his nieces and nephews: April Liggons, Tavares Liggons, Robert Liggons, David Warren, and Calandra Warren; many other relatives, and friends, including his longtime friend, Bonnie Weisel.A viewing and funeral will be held Monday, April 8, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Skylawn Memorial Park.
