Gregory Charles Cala's Obituary
It is with incomprehensible sadness that our family has suffered a tragic loss of our (brother, son, cousin, father of a furry son) Greg Cala, took his life on Sunday June 4, 2023
As those of you who knew Greg are aware, he had a deep passion for friendships, family, Scooty Wonderdog and socializing like no other. He nurtured those friendships relentlessly as many of us don’t invest that time and perhaps take for granted. He had no shortage of family, friends and acquaintances to share his thoughts, challenges, humor, ideas, opinions with.
Greg was born in the San Francisco Bay Area to Robert and Maryelen Cala while living in San Mateo, CA with brothers Robert Cala, Jr and Michael Joseph Cala on family friendly David Court with their loyal dog Frisky. After the family moved to Belmont, CA, Greg attended Fox School through 6th grade, then Ralston Middle School before briefly moving with his mother to Washington State for one year of high School at Mount Rainier before moving back to Belmont and graduating from Carlmont High School. While still in elementary school, after his parents split up, his father Robert Cala, Sr. married Cookie who had three sons of similar ages to Rob, Michael and Greg named Craig, Kenny and Michael. The blended family consisting of six boys and no girls, offered many amazing times, great conversations and a little bit of chaos while creating incredible memories along the way. Sadly, the family has already lost Michael David Cala far too young in October 2000 who is deeply embedded in our memories.
Greg followed Carlmont High School by attending San Diego State University where he majored in Criminal Justice and spent time as a Border Patrol agent while in San Diego. Greg enjoyed his time with his fraternity brothers as part of his Pi Kappa Alpha commonly known as Pikes. Once Greg graduated SDSU, he frequently traveled the world and found an opportunity to fuel his travel through working at Club Med resorts for a decade.
While at Club Med he fulfilled his passion for outdoor and “indoor” sports, entertaining guests and making lifelong friends. Once he wrapped up his time at Club Med he created a handyman business servicing homes in the greater Bay Area for decades while following his dream of acting in commercial, film and through Improv classes. Along the way, Greg adopted his faithful companion Scooty, who he trained into a true wonderdog and best friend!
To many, including Greg, he was complicated, quirky, tenacious, funny, creative, while always just wanting the most out of life through his desire to be in the snow or water or better yet in front of a camera or audience. https://www.sanfranciscofilmschool.edu/spotlight-on-actor-greg-cala/
